Cybersecurity and AI in Action: Real Stories from Elevity’s Team

With cyberthreats becoming more sophisticated (and more frequent), businesses have to stay ahead of the curve to protect their sensitive data and maintain the trust of their clients and vendors. Artificial intelligence (AI) cybersecurity is proving to be a valuable tool in this battle. In this article, we’ll dive into the world of AI in network security and show you how Elevity helps clients with AI-driven solutions, by discussing:

By leveraging advanced algorithms and real-time data analysis, AI can detect and respond to threats faster and more accurately than traditional methods. This game-changing technology improves organizations’ ability to identify where they may be vulnerable, and can also automate responses to attacks.

The Role of AI in Modern Cybersecurity

AI’s ability to detect threats is revolutionizing the field of cybersecurity. Traditional methods often rely on predefined rules and signatures to identify threats – an approach that can be slow and ineffective against new, unknown attacks.

AI, on the other hand, uses sophisticated algorithms to analyze vast amounts of data in real-time, identifying patterns and anomalies that could indicate a threat. Because this approach is proactive rather than reactive, organizations are able to foresee and prevent attacks that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Machine learning, a subset of AI, further enhances cybersecurity measures by continuously learning and adapting to new threats. Unlike static security systems, machine learning models evolve based on the latest threat intelligence, improving their accuracy and effectiveness over time.

Real-World Success Stories from Elevity’s Team

To illustrate the benefits of AI-driven cybersecurity, let’s take a look at a real-world example from Elevity. These stories highlight specific incidents where AI technology played a pivotal role in preventing or mitigating a threat – and, in the process, safeguarded clients’ digital assets and ensuring business continuity.

SIEM SOC Solution Shuts Down Phishing Attempt

Phishing is a common cyber threat, and that’s why we recommend that people pause, consider and verify before clicking a link within an email. When humans are busy, we sometimes don’t take the time to do this.

For example, an employee of a client clicked on a link emailed to them which appeared to be an Office 365 password reset request. The spoofed site asked for the employee’s password. Had the employee taken a closer look at the email, they may have realized that the request was not legitimate.

The user entered their password, giving the criminal access to their account. Fortunately, the company had a SIEM SOC tool in place that used AI to identify a password request that came from outside of the United States and then a multifactor response from Wisconsin. This was suspicious.

Elevity was contacted and the affected user’s account was locked down and reset. This cyber-attack was discovered and neutralized within 10 minutes.

Without AI-driven cybersecurity technology, this threat may not have been discovered for weeks or even months. The longer it takes to find and resolve a cybersecurity event, the more time a threat actor has to launch a ransomware attack against your organization. A little proactive cybersecurity planning now could save your business from a nightmare later.

Stopping a Nighttime Cybersecurity Attack

Many cyberattacks occur during the nighttime hours when threat actors hope no one is monitoring the network. There was an instance when a client’s AI cybersecurity software detected a network breach in the middle of the night. The AI software notified the company and Elevity quickly investigated, neutralized the threat and restored operations in under two hours. The client was able to continue operations the next morning instead of having a complicated cybersecurity mess to solve.

The Tangible Benefits of AI-Driven Solutions

One of the biggest advantages of AI-driven cybersecurity solutions is the dramatic improvement in threat detection and response times. Traditional security systems often struggle to keep up with the sheer volume and complexity of today’s (and tomorrow’s) threats. AI, however, can analyze vast amounts of data in real-time to identify potential threats quickly and accurately. The speed with which AI is able to detect and mitigate threats means businesses minimize the potential damage to their organizations.

AI-driven solutions also help companies improve efficiency. By automating routine tasks such as monitoring network traffic and analyzing security logs, AI reduces the need for manual intervention. This frees up time for IT staff to focus on more strategic initiatives – and focus on cybersecurity if AI detects a situation that a human needs to investigate further.

Future Trends in AI and Cybersecurity

As the field of AI evolves, we’re seeing a number of emerging technologies that are poised to further improve cybersecurity, such as:

  • Quantum computing, which will significantly enhance encryption methods, making it harder for cybercriminals to crack secure communications
  • Advancements in natural language processing (NLP) are enabling AI systems to better understand and respond to human language, improving the detection of phishing attempts and other social engineering attacks
  • Integration of AI with blockchain technology can provide more secure methods for data verification and transaction processing
  • Advanced AI models designed to predict and shut down AI automated cybersecurity threats before they cause harm

By staying ahead of the evolution of cyber threats, businesses can ensure that they are well-equipped to defend their networks and data.
